Where we are, when we are open, and what to expect when you walk in.
Where are you located?
Tobacco Shack sits at 4450 Nelson Brogdon Boulevard, Suite A9, in Buford, Georgia. The shop is on the south side of the boulevard, ten minutes from the Mall of Georgia and roughly forty minutes from downtown Atlanta. Free parking is right out front.
Is parking available?
Yes. Free lot parking directly in front of the storefront. The lot is shared with a small strip of neighbors, so you will always find a spot within twenty feet of our door. No meters, no permits, no parallel parking.
Are you open Sundays?
No. We are closed on Sundays. Monday through Friday we are open from 9am to 7pm. Saturday from 9am to 6pm. We post holiday closures to the door and on the homepage when the calendar gets unusual.
Do I need to be 21 to enter?
Yes. Tobacco Shack is an age-restricted retailer. Federal and Georgia law require you to be 21 or older to purchase or be on the premises for the purpose of purchasing tobacco. We card anyone who looks under 30. No exceptions.
Do you accept Apple Pay?
Yes. We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The terminal supports tap, chip, and swipe. There is no surcharge for card payments.
02 · Humidor
Humidor
How we hold the room, and what that means for the cigars on the shelves.
Do you have a walk-in humidor?
Yes. The walk-in humidor is the heart of the shop. Cedar-lined, climate held year-round, every cigar displayed on cedar shelves rather than behind a glass case. You can pull a box, read the band, and put it back. We encourage you to take your time in the room.
What temperature and humidity do you maintain?
Seventy degrees Fahrenheit and seventy percent relative humidity, the classic 70/70 standard. The room is monitored on a digital hygrometer and we check the calibration twice a year against a saturated salt test. Cigars at 70/70 burn evenly, draw cleanly, and hold their flavor profile.
How do I store cigars at home?
Buy a small cedar desktop humidor or a sealed plastic box, then drop in two-ounce Boveda packs at 65 to 72 percent humidity depending on your taste. Cigars want to live at 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep them out of direct sun. A digital hygrometer is the only way to know what is actually happening inside the box.
Can you order specific cigars not in stock?
Yes, within reason. If we have a direct line to the maker or the regional distributor and the cigar is in production, we can usually get a single box within a week or two. Call or stop in with the brand and vitola, and we will tell you straight whether we can source it and what the price will land at.
03 · Brands
Brands
What is on the wall, and how the selection rotates.
What brands do you carry?
We stock the core lineup of Padron, Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, Perdomo, Oliva, Rocky Patel, Gran Habano, La Aroma de Cuba, My Father, and Tatuaje. The cigar wall rotates with limited editions, anniversary releases, and small-batch boutique cigars. If you have a brand you love, ask. We keep a pulse on what is coming out of Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras.
Do you carry boutique cigars?
Yes. Alongside the household names, we keep a rotating shelf for boutique makers and limited regional releases. The boutique selection is where most of our regulars find their next favorite. Ask the person behind the counter what came in this week.
Are you a tobacco shop or a cigar shop?
Primarily a premium cigar shop. The name is a holdover from the broader tobacco trade, but the room is built around premium handmade cigars. We also carry pipe tobacco and cigar accessories. We do not carry mass-market cigarettes beyond a small accommodation stock for longtime neighbors.
Do you sell cigarettes?
We keep a very small selection of cigarette cartons behind the counter as a courtesy to longtime customers. Our focus and our shelf space are committed to premium cigars, pipe tobacco, and accessories. If cigarettes are your primary need, a gas station or convenience store is a better fit.
Do you carry Cuban cigars?
No. United States federal law forbids the commercial import or sale of Cuban-origin tobacco. Anyone selling cigars labeled as Cuban inside the United States is either selling counterfeits or breaking federal law. The Nicaraguan and Dominican producers on our shelves rival anything coming out of Havana, and you can buy them with confidence.
04 · Events
Events
Maker nights, limited releases, and how to hear about them first.
Do you host events?
Yes. We host maker nights with traveling brand reps, limited-release launches, and the occasional Saturday tasting. Events are posted on the Events page and announced to the VIP text list a week ahead. Most events are free with the purchase of a cigar.
Do you have a loyalty program?
Yes. Shack VIP is our points program, free to join by texting SHACK. You earn 8 points on every dollar you spend, and 100 points equals $1 toward a reward. Redeem at the counter for a Bic lighter, a free premium cigar, a premium torch lighter or cutter, all the way up to a full box of cigars. Points come off your balance when you redeem, so cash in small or save for the big one.
Do you sell online?
Not at this time. Federal and state tobacco shipping rules make direct-to-consumer cigar sales a complicated proposition, and we choose to keep our energy on the room rather than on a fulfillment operation. Call ahead to reserve a cigar for pickup if you cannot get in before close.
05 · Cigars and Accessories
Cigars and Accessories
Picking a cigar, cutting it, lighting it, and the tools that help.
What is a good cigar for a beginner?
A mild Connecticut-wrapped robusto. Try a Gran Habano Connecticut No. 5 robusto, an Arturo Fuente Brevas Royale, or a Perdomo Champagne Connecticut. Smooth wrappers, even draws, no kick. Smoke slowly, breathe through the nose, and let the flavor settle on the palate. Your first cigar should never be a Maduro torpedo.
What is the difference between a Connecticut and a Maduro wrapper?
Connecticut wrappers are shade-grown leaves cured to a light tan color. They are mild, creamy, and easy to draw on, the classic morning cigar. Maduro wrappers are dark, oily leaves that have been fermented longer and at higher temperatures. They drink sweeter, with chocolate and espresso notes, and they hit harder. Same body of cigar, very different flavor and strength.
Do you offer cigar accessories like cutters and lighters?
Yes. Guillotine cutters, V-cutters, and punch cutters at every price point. Soft-flame and torch lighters, ashtrays, travel humidors, Boveda packs, and humidor solution. We will demonstrate any of them at the counter so you know what you are buying.
06 · History and Compliance
History and Compliance
Who we are, how long we have been doing this, and how we stay legal.
How long have you been in business?
Tobacco Shack has been on Nelson Brogdon Boulevard since 1996. The shop has changed shape a few times across three decades, but the room and the walk-in humidor have been a fixture of the Buford retail strip since the year a pack of cigarettes cost two dollars and a Padron 1964 was still considered new.
Who owns the shop?
The current ownership took over in 2016 and runs it as a family business. The store has stayed in the family of operators long enough to know the regulars by name and to know which cigars come from which farm. Walk in any afternoon and you will likely meet the owner across the counter.
How do you stay compliant with tobacco regulations?
We are licensed by the Georgia Department of Revenue, registered with the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, and we ID anyone who looks under 30. We do not sell to minors. We do not sell to straw buyers. We comply with all federal, state, and Gwinnett County signage and disclosure requirements.
Still curious? Ask in person.
The fastest answer is the one across the counter. Stop in any afternoon and we will walk you through the room.
