The short version

Padron is a family-owned Nicaraguan cigar maker founded by Jose Orlando Padron in 1964. The brand is known for three core lines: the everyday Padron Series, the 1964 Anniversary Series, and the top-shelf 1926 Serie. We stock all three at Tobacco Shack, with the 2000 Robusto under twelve dollars and the 1964 Anniversary the brand sweet spot at fifteen to twenty.

History

Where it comes from.

Padron was founded in Miami in 1964 by Jose Orlando Padron, a Cuban immigrant who used family farming knowledge from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba to source and roll Nicaraguan tobacco. The original Padron factory burned three separate times in its early decades. The brand survived, expanded into Nicaragua proper, and built one of the most respected family operations in the industry.

Today Padron is run by Jose's son Jorge Padron, and the family farms its own tobacco in the Estelí valley. Every Padron cigar is rolled with long-filler Nicaraguan tobacco from the family's farms. The box-press shape has become a signature.
